The year that was, 2009.

A great year full of surprises and challenges and beautiful moments. Today, i will particularly put it out that this was a year that gave me numerous opportunities to grow as a person. this is especially because of the wonderful people that continuously keep on shaping my thinking and worldview. Special mention, Prof. Vishanthie Sewpaul, she has allowed me to explore my capabilites by giving me numerous platforms in unconventional setups in which i had to explore the opportunies of learning through critical practice and reflection. I am writing this piece in a week which will be epitomising these perspectives through a graduation ceremony, in which i would be confered a bachelors degree in social work- and it pleases the university authority to give me a cum laude, not that i did not work hard.

Ok beautiful moment come and go but some remain with you and shape your perspectives-some of which are my presentations in the year 2009, the were growth processes provided by Prof. Sewpaul. One of the many presentations, i remember she indicated 'guys i am having international students, PhD students from different Universities who would want me to teach them some research perspectives but because i believe in you i know you can do it on my behalf'. Wow! that was special trust and previlege, as well as an honour to step up. The presentation that we did with my colleagues was based on different perspectives in our broad study on the survival strategies for children and youth living on the streets of Durban and in this presentation, my take was on: Critical social research, an area which i am begining to see myself falling in love with.
